The Legislature made some good moves in the new state budget, but they missed a big opportunity to put tax fairness at the heart of it. Instead, they leaned too much on one-time money and didn’t challenge the Governor’s resistance to long-term, fairer funding. That means no serious effort to ask millionaires and multinational corporations to pay their fair share. With federal cuts looming, Trump policies dragging the economy, and everyday costs going up, we need bold tax fairness laws to protect the things Mainers rely on.
